Website Development

Website Development, to those who are unfamiliar with it, can be a scary term. At Exigo Digital, we make it our mission to break the process down for you, and make it an exciting, new process for your business.

Your website should be your anchor to the world – and it is meant to be a living, breathing system.  What is should not be is a completed task that sits on the shelf, and we are here to make sure it doesn’t. Your website is what keeps you connected with your customers and even your potential customers, so why would you ever neglect it?

It’s not broke, why design and develop a new one?

Each year society is taught to ask questions and seek more; more information, more usability and more engagement. Let’s think for a second what an outdated website says about your brand, maybe you are not investing in your own brand, maybe you are not embracing the digital world or you simply do not care. Whatever is holding you back, let it go and trust us to help you reverse your bad habits. We will help you organize, refresh, simplify and completely transform your website into a place that customers and future customers feel free to browse or purchase your product or services.

Your website should reflect your brand, products or services. The information presented to them should be completely precise and up-to-date so it is easy for customers to find or contact you.

Do not waste a potential customer’s time by having an unorganized website, because if you cannot present your business as being professional, what will they expect of your product or service? Connect with your audience, make it worth their while to visit your website, and take that next click.

What should your website contain?

  1. At minimum, it should enable your customers or potential customers to find you. What does this mean? Your website should include information such as: address, phone number, hours of operation and email address(es) for contact
  2. Product and/or Service information
  3. Contact Form(s)
  4. Cross-device optimization – it should not matter if your customers or potential customers are on a desktop, laptop, tablet or mobile device. They should be able to easily read, engage and navigate through your website
  5. Lightning-fast speed – People are busy, they don’t have time to wait for your website to load. Be helpful; make sure your website load-time is minimal

Most importantly, your website will tie all of your digital marketing efforts together. Make it easy for them to ask questions or get in touch with you. If they are willing to ask questions, they are most likely a future customer. Exigo Digital understands that these things may not be easy for you to accomplish, but that is why we are here to help you accomplish your goals and bring your website back to standards.

Elements of Website Development

Our Content Management System (CMS) of Choice

When it comes to our job, we choose to use the tools that best suite us and WordPress is our first choice for Content Management Systems (CMS). WordPress is a free, open-source tool that is a Content Management System (CMS) based on PHP and MySQL. As of January 2015, MyPress was used by more than 23.3% of the top 10 million websites, making it a quality choice for Exigo Digital.

Content marketing is one of the most efficient ways to expose your brand into the world of customers. One of our favorite forms of content marketing is blogging. WordPress was originally created in 2003 for bloggers, but since then it has grown to become one of the largest Content Management Systems that exist today. We like that when we begin to develop a website for a new business, the blog is essentially ready-to-use. And of course, there are an unlimited amount of customizations for those projects that require it.

Exigo Digital did not simply choose WordPress because it was convenient. Prior to our decision to use WordPress we have experimented with other CMS’s; Squarespace, Shopify, Drupal, Magento, Expression Engine. Throughout these trials, we were continuously unsatisfied and it became clear that WordPress was our first choice. We have yet run into a website that could not be fully established and built by using WordPress alone, nor do we have unhappy clients. Until we run into these issues, we will continue to use WordPress and create websites that are sure to impress.

Language of Choice

When developing a website from scratch, we will use HTML5/CSS3, PHP, JavaScript and
SQL for the database(s).

Design & Interface

After we have an understanding of your business offerings, we will create (3) different PSD designs of the homepage, subpage and mobile-responsive layout for you to choose from.

Businesses often approach us with the task of creating a new website design, but do not always have insight as to what needs to change. Generally, the businesses have some feedback from customers or internal staff but struggle to understand functionalities. Navigation and content structures that they should implement.

When this situation occurs, we offer to implement our live site-monitoring took. The process goes as follows:

1) We will add a small snippet of code to your website
2) Then when a visitor comes to your website, the application will begin recording their visit.

While we cannot see who they are, we can see what website browser they are using, where geographically they are located, how long they are on your site, and what referral medium brought them to the website.

We look for patterns, so therefore there are no ‘a-ha’ moments. We determine where people are getting confused at or where occurrences when visitors are on your website right before they exit. These findings allow us to pin-point the aspects of your website that are preventing you from keeping potential customers, and begin building and restructuring your new website to eliminate these blemishes.

After we have an understanding of your business offerings, we will create (3) different PSD designs of the homepage, subpage and mobile-responsive layout for you to choose from.

Content Development

We offer content development as a service – it’s actually one of our favorite things to do. We feel that it’s imperative that the content on your website has the same language. It is better to have one person write all of your content in one tone, rather than a mix. We have found that audiences are able to interpret the content and  understand the concept as a whole.

Our Content Development Process:
1) Develop your customer personas – Who are we talking to? We’re not writing for us, we’re writing for your audience.
2) Identify content structure and hierarchy – How does your audience find information on your website? How can we organize it most efficiently?
3) Think with SEO in mind, write for humans – Organic rankings are very important, but creating content that makes sense is more important. No keyword bombings here.

The purpose of blogging is to be helpful and provide valuable information to your target audience while generating engaging, healthy conversations.

Within any given blog that we create for a business, we give them the opportunity to:
1) have numerous authors contribute – and hide or display the authorship
2) categorize their blog posts
3) implement popular tagging
4) have the ability to share any post on any social networking platform
5) enable commenting on a post – or disable commenting if its not appropriate

Blogging is a powerful way to build a community around your online brand when done effectively.

Social Media Integration

We offer the ability to integrate social networks within your website. This can be as simple as providing links to all of your social platforms or integrating the social network’s API into your website to produce a direct, live feed onto a page of your website. Some businesses enjoy giving the audience the option of sharing particular content pages or blog posts, and we support this.

Our goal is to integrate your website’s content with your social media content. Instead of them working independently, they should work together as a team.

Some of the most-popular social media networks we integrate on websites:
1) Facebook
2) Twitter
3) Instagram
4) YouTube
5) Google+
6) Pinterest
7) Houzz

Special Functionalities

Special functionalities are typically always custom. Every business needs that one thing that makes them different from others. Whether it’s a custom portfolio of past projects or work completed, an ever-changing schedule that needs to be updated weekly, product specification sheets or print-outs, end-user input calculators or end-user testing/certification applications – we’ve created them all and with this have become extremely versatile to meet your needs. While these special functionalities will have a separate cost, we guarantee that we can deliver you exactly what you need.

Maintaining & Managing

Training & Education

Contrary to popular belief, our ideal client is not modifying a few paragraphs on a month-to-month basis. We would rather train your staff and be here for the heavy lifting, so you don’t have to be.

After we launch every website, we initiate a 30-day on-call training program. We will come to your offices and train a small group of people on how to update and manage your website.

It’s important to us that you feel comfortable with the ‘keys to the castle’; we want you to have complete control, while making it convenient.

Internal Staff Usability

Most of our clients are interested making significant coding changes, but want to manage most of the day-to-day elements. After our 30-day training, you can expect your internal staff to be able to:

1) Update content pages
2) Create new content pages
3) Write blog posts
4) Insert and move images and media
5) Update business contact information (emails, hours, locations)

Website Maintenance & Updates

All websites need to be maintained on a fairly regular basis. Below are website updates and maintenance plans that we offer on a monthly or annual basis should you not be interested in maintaining such internally.

1) Making security updates
2) Updating content/media
3) Implementing/managing SEO best-practices
4) Developing new content
5) Creating and monitoring blog content and comments

Website Development Management

We use Basecamp for all of our project management needs. Here’s some of our favorite features of our project management system:

1) Each user gets a separate log-in account to help separate tasks and responsibilities
2) Basecamp can store videos, images, text documents, PDFs and more – all in one location
3) We’re able to have an unlimited amount of discussions all within Basecamp. No more treading through emails looking for responses
4) We can set deadlines and assign to-do lists to specific users
5) It’s easy to use! We have videos available for training, but we’re confident that the user-interface is simple enough for you to pick up right away.
